Experimental Hepatic Artery Embolization in Rabbit

Abstract
|
|
|
The hepatic artery was embolized with gelfoam in 12 rabbits to evaluate the effect of embolization.
12 healthy adult rabbits weighing 2-3 kg were used.
In 12 of rabbits, 6 was died after gelfoam embolization within 2 days due to gastrodenal ulcer perforation which is most common complication.
2 were died due to extensive hepatic necrosis. 4 of them were successed hepatic artery embolization with gelfoam and followed angiography 1 week and 4 weeks.
With follow-up angiography, complete or partial recanalization, neovascularity, blush and collateral circulation through gastric artery was observed.
